Chicken Graduation 2025

Chicken Graduation 2025

Third grade spent the month of May hatching eggs. During that time we candled the eggs, this is a simple and effective way to show students that there is life inside the eggshell. In a dark room, shining a bright light through the shell of an egg will allow students to peek inside at the developing chick. After four days a heartbeat can be observed, and just a few days later the wings, legs, and a beak can be distinguished! Once our chicks arrived we spent some time teaching the children how to hold and care for baby chicks. It is safe to say we all enjoyed our time with the baby chicks! Third grade even attempted a chick graduation in the hallway. Of course it didn’t go exactly as planned, but it was adorable nonetheless!
